WRITING FOR CHILDREN

Michael Mallory hugely enjoys writing and/or telling stories to kids. Maybe it’s because he was once a kid himself; or maybe it is because there is no audience more challenging, and thus more rewarding, to satisfy.

In 2007 Mike began a new series of short-short stories featuring an eleven-year-old sleuth named “Scotty.” The Scotty mysteries have regularly appeared on the Kids Reading Room Page of the Los Angeles Times, and have developed quite a following, even among adults.

Mike first plunged into kids and family entertainment in 1989, when he signed on as a show writer for Disneyland. There he created stage shows, ceremonies and parades that had to appeal to all ages of children,

from 2 to 90. After leaving Disneyland, he went on to script rides and attraction films for other theme parks, including Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, and Universal Studios Florida. Michael continues to consult in the theme park design industry.

His first book for young readers, “Night Shocker,” was published in 1997 by Baronet Books as part of its “FrightTime” series. Since then he has written some fifteen stories and a handful of articles specifically for kids, often under the byline “Mike Mallory.” These have been appeared online and in such print publications as Mysterynet Kids Magazine, Fox Kids Magazine, and the Los Angeles Times Kids Reading Room Page. Mike plans to keep writing for kids until he himself grows up…which will be a while.
